Thanks to a grant and the collaboration of local partners, Indigo Power is delivering a pilot community battery to store excess solar energy right in Yarra Junction. Equipped with cutting-edge commercial, technological, and software systems, the community battery marks a significant move towards embracing local renewable energy consumption.
This project is not just about energy—it’s about empowering our community, fostering sustainability, and keeping the benefits local. Project Manager, Dena Schulz shares the project’s latest milestone and what’s next.
“Civil works have now been completed for the Yarra Junction battery and we’re now ready to situate the new switchboard for the battery on site. The switchboard is currently being constructed by Border Switchboards and is expected to be installed on-site in mid-August.
Once a new switchboard is on site the local network manager AusNet Services will be able to install a new transformer and we can connect to the network.
The battery manufacturing is expected to commence in September and we’ll look to have the 300 kWh Pixii battery in place in the final quarter of the calendar year.
