The projects team has been busy at work, with four community battery projects now installed across the region and commissioning progressing across multiple sites. These batteries are designed to strengthen local energy resilience, support critical community infrastructure, and share locally generated electricity with Indigo Power customers.
Here’s an update on where each project is at and what it will deliver for our communities.
Beechworth, Victoria | BEECH01
The site at the Old Beechworth Gaol is a milestone project for Indigo Power, incorporating our very first renewable energy asset: the original 30 kW solar system installed back in 2019.
Since then, a further 69 kW of solar has been added, alongside an 89 kW / 336 kWh Pixii battery. Together, this system will:
- Provide backup power to the site during emergency outages
- Supply shared energy to users of the facility
- Share locally generated electricity with Indigo Power customers
The battery was installed in January 2026, with commissioning and testing expected to be completed in the coming weeks. This project is part of Tranche 1 of the ARENA-funded Community Batteries for Energy Resilience Project.
Myrtleford, Victoria | MYRT01
Located at the McNamara Reserve, home of the Myrtleford Football & Netball Club, this site plays a critical role as the town’s Bushfire Place of Last Resort.
The project includes:
- 40 kW of rooftop solar installed on the newly renovated stadium building
- An 89 kW / 336 kWh Pixii battery installed at the main switchboard
Once fully operational, the system will:
- Supply power to the football and netball club
- Share locally generated energy with Indigo Power customers
The battery was installed in December 2025 and commissioning and testing are currently underway. This project is part of Tranche 1 of the ARENA-funded Community Batteries for Energy Resilience Project.
Wodonga, Victoria | WODO02
Located at the Albury Wodonga Indoor Cricket Stadium, this project builds on a successful partnership with Patagonia, which saw 97 kW of solar installed on the stadium building as part of an earlier project.
We’ve now added a 100 kW / 482 kWh Evo battery, which will:
- Supply the stadium with low-cost, locally stored electricity
- Provide backup power capability
- Continue supplying Patagonia under the existing power purchase agreement
- Share energy with local Indigo Power customers
This project was commissioned in December 2025 and is now fully operational. This project received financial support through a grant from the Victorian Government’s 100 Neighbourhood Battery program.
Baranduda, Victoria | WODO01
The Barranduda Community Battery is a stand-alone 118 kW / 456 kWh system located on North East Water property in Baranduda. Unlike other sites, it has no on-site solar generation and operates independently of the facility’s electricity use.
Instead, it uses a specialised network tariff that allows it to:
- Charge during the day when solar energy is abundant and low-cost
- Export energy during the evening peak, when it is most valuable
The battery will share electricity with customers connected to the Wodonga Community Energy Hub, supporting a more balanced and resilient local grid.
This project was commissioned in December 2025 and is now operational. This project received financial support through a grant from the Victorian Government’s 100 Neighbourhood Battery program.
Building local energy resilience
Each of these projects demonstrates how community batteries can deliver multiple benefits: lower-cost energy, improved reliability during outages, and better use of locally generated renewable power. We look forward to sharing more updates as commissioning is completed and the remaining systems come fully online.
